looking for a gym near/at UQ

Posted at: 04:44pm 11/02/10

Hi all,

I'm trying to decide on a gym near/at UQ as I'm desperately in need of some regular exercise :)

I've checked out Fitness First at Toowong and wasn't impressed with the whole hard sell, Robo-Gym thing they have going.

I've just found out that UQ offers staff group fitness and I was wondering if anyone has joined in on that & what they thought?

Also has anyone used the UQ gym & what do they think?

I'm looking for something that's 'in my way' on the commute to/from work - something that I can't easily bypass.

Cheers!

I know some people going at UQ Gym and they are pretty happy.

The offer for group lessons range from gentle yoga to pilates and vigorous cardio strengthening. They have dance classes and martial art as well!

I think I'll give it a go ;)

There definitely is a staff fitness program at UQ, accessed through UQ Sport. It was until recently called the 'Unifit' program. There is a staff-only gym in the O'Connell (Human Movements) Building if you want a low-key, but fully supervized environment. Regular weekly classes are held for staff. A mixed group, which attends the Monday pm and Friday am sessions, has been attending in various combinations for some years and even has the UQ Staff Club Friday special $10 breakfast afterwards.

One of my reasons for attending is to keep my fitness up for competitive rowing at UQ Boat Club, of which I am a member.
