Today I've walked from home to the Uni with a pedometer and I discovered that one way it is 4,000 steps (and about 40 minutes).
I did it also on the way back and walked around the campus for a couple of meetings for a total of more than 10,000 steps.
At the end of the day the sensation in my legs was similar to when you exercise for a couple of hours but surprisingly, after a full day at work, I didn't feel as tired as when I hardly walk 1,000 steps!
My advice: give it a go!
