Wouldn't it just be considerably easier to find candy, as the wide range of snacks available would be literally 2 clicks away, rather than 30 feet and an information kiosk?

That makes sense - supermarkets spend a lot of money with product positioning and rotation, in an attempt to make you buy both impulse goods (chocolate bars, softdrinks), and buy the products best positioned as opposed to the best for you.
